When I was little I was just as into “scary” as I am now and one of the shorts that I remember watching was “Frankenweenie” by Tim Burton. Back in 1984 it starred the “oh so sexy” (for a four year old) Barret Oliver (yes! the kid from “The NeverEnding Story!!!!”) as well as Shelley Duvall, Daniel Stern and Jason Hervey (the brat ass big brother from “The Wonder Years”). The film was live action and ran less than a half hour.
Now – there’s a NEW Frankenweenie coming out! Here’s the (short) synopsis!
“From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life–with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.”
This new full-length version comes out October 5, 2012 and stars Charlie Tahan (the little brother from “Charlie St. Cloud”) as well as Martin Landau, Martin Short, Winona Ryder, Christopher Lee and Catherine O’Hara (to name a few). I am actually super excited about this movie since I am such a fan of the original! Seeing “more” will be awesome! My seven year old is also excited (so is my husband) because they’ve both enjoyed the original on our DVD copy of “Nightmare Before Christmas!”
“Frankenweenie” will be the first black and white feature and first stop-motion film to be released in IMAX 3D!
Will you be going to see it?
