Deathly Hallows Part I comes out this November (actually – 10 days after my due date!) and Deathly Hallows Part II comes out July 2011! So EXCITED!!! I’m trying not to read the book again because I was so disappointed with how Half-Blood Prince was brought to the big screen. We shall see though – maybe they learned their lesson and will cover more being that the final book is two movies.

But speaking of The Twilight Saga and it’s newest book to movie Eclipse … Are you going to see it in theater’s? I already bought my tickets and will be seeing it on Wednesday at 7:30pm. I love making fun of the tween girls who howl at the screen! I saw New Moon three times at the movie theater and I think Eclipse is going to be a much better movie!

The past couple times I’ve gone to the movies I’ve seen a trailer for a movie with Steve Carell and Tina Fey (who, in my humble opinion are two of the funniest people on the planet). The movie is called “Date Night” and is about your normal average married couple who head out for a date. Except – this time they get a little wacky and take someone else’s reservation at a super crowded and super posh restaurant. This leads to a little case of mistaken identity and a night filled with action and adventure including breaking and entering, a car chase, a shootout and a showdown with an underworld boss at a strip club. Husband and wife come out of the adventure with some scratches and also with their ardor renewed! See? It’s the perfect Date Night Movie!

“It’s a bit of shock therapy for their marriage,” Carell says. “They’re content and sort of placid, and they need to stir things up.”

That sense of contentment, Carell and Fey stressed in interviews, was crucial when they decided to take the roles. “It was important that we wouldn’t be awful to each other,” Fey said. “The comedy wasn’t that they hated each other. They’re in love.” At the same time, she added, “you do sometimes wonder, ‘Do I have it in me to do anything exciting again?’ ”

The movie’s big theme is teamwork, and its centerpiece is a squealing car chase in which Steve Carell (Phil) drives a taxicab attached grille to grille with a sports car driven by Tina Fey (Claire).

Go see the movie with your honey (or your girls!) – it opens up tomorrow night – April 9th!

My friend and I took a few kids (ours and otherwise) to the movies the other day to check out How to Train Your Dragon in IMAX 3d. We had with us a three year old, two five year olds (one boy, one girl) and a six year old. All the kids seemed to really like the movie a lot! I know I did – it was a really fun movie made especially true by the cool 3d effects (I get a huge kick out of 3d movies). But – I think the movie would’ve been just as good in 2d – so if you don’t have the extra money for the 3d/IMAX version don’t worry!

The basic plot is that this skinny little viking teenager (”Hiccup” voiced by Jay Baruchel) is training to slay dragons like every other good viking does. In fact – his greatest desire is to make his big Dad viking proud and be a big-bad dragon slaying viking. Problem is – he just can’t bring himself to do it once he catches one! Hiccup becomes the unlikely friend of a young dragon and learns there may be more to the creatures than he (and the rest of his village) assumed.

The movie also stars Gerard Butler (as “Stoick” – Hiccup’s Dad), Craig Ferguson (as “Gobber”), America Ferrera (as “Astrid”), Jonah Hill (as “Snotlout”), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (as “Fishlegs”), T.J. Miller (as “Tuffnut”) and Kristen Wiig (as “Ruffnut”).

Jay Baruchel seems to be in a few things lately … and of course Christopher Mintz-Plasse (aka McLovin’) is in an upcoming movie “Kickass” which I am dying to see!

The movie is rated PG for sequences of intense action and some scary images, and brief mild language. I don’t really remember the “brief mild language” though … it’s along the same lines as the Shrek movies. I think anything “course” would fly right over little-one’s heads but the adults will catch it. There is a big scene at the end that involves fire and the possible death of a character – so watch out for that.

Anyway – loved it and thoroughly recommend it! We had a great time

A couple friends and I went this past Friday to see the new vampire flick “Daybreakers” with Ethan Hawke. If you are a fan of ‘real’ vamps and not the Cullen-type vamps this movie is definitely for you!

In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind.

I’ve been really jumpy lately – so I got started and shrieked like a little girl a few times.

I really thought it was neat how the city was structured around the fact that the majority of the population are vampires. The underground walkway, the black out windows and the “day light driving” cars that are completely enclosed and give the driver a view via cameras attached to the outside of the car. Keep your eye out for a SWEET vintage Trans-Am suitable for “daylight driving.”

One repeat in this story was there is a vampire (Ethan Hawke) who doesn’t want to feed on humans. Viewers learn that if a vampire doesn’t feed on human blood – after awhile they will morph into a snarly, nasty critter that will attack anyone and anything in order to survive. The “sub-siders” as they are called even feed off themselves if needed.

The awfully sad part of the movie was when the sub-siders are ordered to be put to death due to ever increasing attacks from them on the “normal” vampires. This is a pretty pivotal part of the movie though.

The climax of the movie includes a HUGE feeding frenzy which is incredibly gross but sorta awesome too. The gore in the movie is more of the outlandish “comic book” type and less like the “realistic” gore as seen in movies like the remakes of “Dawn of the Dead” or “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” – both of which screwed with my head for years afterwards.

The Cast:

Ethan Hawke as Edward Dalton

Willem Dafoe as Lionel “Elvis” Cormac

Claudia Karvan as Audrey Bennett

Sam Neill as Charles Bromley

Michael Dorman as Frankie Dalton

Isabel Lucas as Alison Bromley

Vince Colosimo as Christopher Caruso

In its opening weekend in the United States, Daybreakers opened at #4 behind Avatar, Sherlock Holmes and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel with $15,146,692 totaling $26,544,952. In its second week it dropped to #11 making another 5,185,554 dollars. In its third week it dropped to #14, making another $1,600,000. [from Wikipedia].

My friends and I (three girls including me and a boy) liked the movie a lot. Go see it if you like good vampy horror films!

Avatar ………………………………………… $50.3M
Of course Avatar is number one – this movie was absolutely breathtaking and amazing! Yes the story is a little “recycled” (I’ve heard it compared to “Dances with Wolves”) but it’s still a good one. It’s got something for both women and men – it’s a love story, but it’s also a human-interest story that shows how nasty (and greedy) humans can be (with some guns and high-tech gear of course). I saw it with two friends in IMAX 3-D and I wouldn’t see it any other way. It’s so worth the money and I honestly hope I can see it at least once more before it leaves the movies.

Sherlock Holmes …………………………… $16.5M
I haven’t seen this one – but it’s on my “to-do” list! Robert Downy Jr. looks pretty yummy!

Alvin & Chipmunks 2 ………………………. $16.5M
I’ve heard nothing but good things about this movie from my friends who have taken their kids to see it! It’s on Xander’s “to-do” list!

Daybreakers…………………………………. $15.1M
This movie looks awesome! On my “to-do” list! Saw it! Read my Daybreakers review!

It’s Complicated ……………………………. $11.0M
This movie was absolutely laugh-out-loud fabulous! Meryl Streep is always awesome (”I like a lot of semen …“), Alec Baldwin is hilarious and I just ADORE Steve Martin (”Not the best time to be feeling groovy“). Be on the lookout for toking-old people and Alec Baldwin’s ass! LOL!

Leap Year……………………………………… $9.2M
Looks cute but I probably won’t see it in the movies.

The Blind Side ………………………………. $7.5M
Eh … this one doesn’t interest me.

Up in the Air…………………………………. $7.1M
This is supposed to be a really great movie! I really like George Clooney and the girl who play’s Jessica Stanley in the Twilight Saga movies (Anna Kendrick) is really funny. It’s on my “to-do” list.

Youth in Revolt……………………………… $6.8M
I’ve no idea what this movie is about! Oh, this is the one with Michael Cera. This is a maybe.

Princess and the Frog …………………….. $4.6M
This movie was great!! It’s about time Disney came up with a smart and sassy female role-model! My son loved this movie! It had a few maybe-scary parts (it’s set in New Orleans and has a lot of voodoo references) but it was really a cool movie. I definitely recommend it!

If you’ve seen me posting on Twitter you know that I am a huge fan of the Twilight saga. I’m “Team Jacob” too and even wore a homemade t’shirt to the movies the other night to catch New Moon with about six other “old ladies” (all over the age of 25 but under the age of 50).
The theater was packed with mostly tweenage / teenage girls of course who shrieked each time anything came on screen (I was the asshat screaming in the back row “OMG! LOOK! It’s a MOON!”).

New Moon was released on November 20, 2009 in the United States and Canada, and set domestic box office records as the biggest midnight screening and opening day in history when it grossed an estimated $72.7 million in its first day of release.

The movie was great though – I think it was much better than Twilight. I liked this book a lot more also – once you get passed all the teenage drama and angst (which really gets old). This book / movie is the reason I am “Team Jacob” lol … You absolutely HAVE to root for him by the end of this movie!

Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black) really worked his ass off for this part – he looked great. Let’s just ignore the fact that he’s not legal yet okay? He looked HOT as did the rest of the Wolf Pack. With the exception of a few things the movie really did cover the book well. The ending in the movie was much better though I believe.

Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan) reprises her role as the “I can’t live without a man” lead chick while Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) mopes around and reminds Bella to ‘keep her promise’ (unlike the book where Edward was merely a voice in Bella’s head).

I love watching the Cullen family interact on screen though. I’ve always been a fan of Peter Facinelli (Carlisle) and absolutely adore Ashley Greene (Alice). Unfortunately – I don’t think Nikki Reed looked quite as lovely as Rosalie in this movie. She seemed like more of an afterthought hair and makeup wise. I believe she was ‘wigged’ for this movie thus accounting for the terrible hair-do. What a shame as Rosalie is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous.

Nice to see that Jackson Rathbone (Jasper) looked a little less constipated in this movie. I know it’s just his character (of Jasper) but jeeze! Jackson is really hot normally!

I thought the casting for the Volturi family was absolutely PERFECT! I cheered when Dakota Fanning (Jane) came onscreen. She didn’t have a big role – but I’ve read she’s a massive Twilight fan; so I’m sure what little screentime she had was so worth it! Michael Sheen (Aro) was also perfect for his role. The way I pictured Aro in the book was a little ‘foppish’ yet also quite sinister. He seemed to channel Johnny Depp’s character in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” perfectly and thus, was perfect for Aro!

Rachelle Lefevre comes back in this movie as Victoria although she will not be in the next movie (Eclipse) which is a shame. She’s absolutely stunning and makes for a great beautiful yet absolutely dangerous vampire vixen.

The Wolf Pack featuring Chaske Spencer (Sam), Kiowa Gordon (Embry Call), Tyson Houseman (Quil Ateara), Alex Meraz (Paul) and Bronson Pelletier (Jared) was pretty easy on the eyes too!

If you like Vampires and Wolves and neat CGI tricks go see New Moon. If you like hot guys and gorgeous girls go see New Moon. If you are obsessed with the Twilight saga go see New Moon. If your girlfriend is obsessed with the Twilight Saga .. take HER to see New Moon!

Have you bought your tickets for New Moon yet? Are you going to see the movie?

A couple girlfriends and I went to see the new movie “Zombieland” (which stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin). The film takes place within a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies (triggered by a virulent form of human adapted mad cow disease) and begins with narration by “Columbus” (Eisenberg) who is explaining what is going on and his “rules” for survival. By the end of the film the list has thirty-three rules with only some of them being mentioned.

Jesse Eisenberg (who was recently seen in “Adventureland” with Kristen Stewart) is the epitome of the ‘anti-hero’ … skinny, geeky and a loner – who also has a sweetness that makes you root for him throughout the movie. Woody Harrelson plays the zombie-ass-kicking “Tallahassee” who joins forces with Eisenberg’s “Columbus” in a search for life, liberty and the pursuit of Twinkies. Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin play sisters who throw a wrench in Tallahassee and Columbus’ plans!

Some of Columbus’ “Rules” include:

Cardio – the “fatties” will die first!

Double tap – this is the apocalypse, just shoot twice already.

Beware of bathrooms – what can you do to fight them off if you are on the crapper?

(Don’t) Be a hero – save your own ass first.

Limber up – this goes along with ‘rule #1′ …

Check the back seat – you will get more than ‘carjacked’ if you don’t!

Enjoy the little things – especially Twinkies.

I thought this movie was one of the most hilarious movies I’ve ever seen. Period. Yes it’s disgusting and gory, yes there are zombies and curse words and death and destruction … but by the time the movie really kicks up you won’t even notice anymore because you will be too busy laughing.

This movie is great for horror buffs and comedy nuts alike. Bring the girls (or the hubby) but definetly NOT the kids (I totally saw some Dad and his 10 year old son in the movie … they left a few minutes in THANK GOODNESS!)
